App Store screenshot sizes 2026: complete guide
The pixel dimensions, aspect ratios, and requirements for every iPhone, iPad, and Android screenshot size accepted by the App Store and Google Play in 2026.
Apple and Google both require app screenshots in specific pixel dimensions. Submit the wrong size and the App Store rejects your build, or Google Play silently scales the image and ruins the layout. This guide lists every size accepted today, which ones are required, and what each store does with them.
iOS App Store sizes
Apple wants screenshots at the largest current iPhone and iPad sizes. If you provide those, Apple automatically displays them on smaller devices — you do not need to upload every legacy size separately.
| Device | Pixels (W × H) | Aspect | Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 6.7" | 1290 × 2796 | 9:19.5 | Yes |
| iPhone 6.5" | 1284 × 2778 | 9:19.5 | Yes |
| iPhone 5.5" | 1242 × 2208 | 9:16 | Yes |
| iPad Pro 12.9" | 2048 × 2732 | 3:4 | Yes |
| iPad Pro 11" | 1668 × 2388 | 2:3 | Optional |
The 6.7" iPhone size (1290×2796) is the primary required size for all new submissions. The 12.9" iPad Pro size (2048×2732) covers every iPad in the catalog. Older sizes — 6.5", 5.5", and the 11" iPad — remain accepted for backwards compatibility but are no longer required if you ship the larger ones.
Google Play Store sizes
Google is more flexible than Apple on dimensions. Each side must be between 320 and 3840 pixels, and the aspect ratio must not exceed 2:1. These are the recommended targets that work cleanly across the Play Store layout:
| Device | Pixels (W × H) | Aspect | Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 | Yes |
| 7" Tablet | 1200 × 1920 | 10:16 | Optional |
| 10" Tablet | 1800 × 2560 | 9:13 | Optional |
Phone screenshots are required for every app. Tablet screenshots are only required if you intentionally exclude smaller form factors; if you ship to all devices, Google strongly recommends uploading 7" and 10" tablet sets to avoid the "not optimized for tablets" warning on listings.
File format and color
- App Store: PNG or high-quality JPEG. RGB color in sRGB or P3 color space. No alpha channel.
- Google Play: PNG or 24-bit JPEG. No alpha channel, no transparency. Maximum 8 MB per file.
- PNG is preferred when screenshots contain UI text, sharp edges, or flat color regions — JPEG compression introduces artifacts on those.
How many screenshots per language
- App Store: 1–10 screenshots per device size, per language. Most apps upload 3–6 since only the first three are visible without scrolling.
- Google Play: 2–8 screenshots per form factor. The minimum to publish is 2 phone screenshots.
What changes year to year
Apple typically introduces a new required size when it ships a new flagship iPhone with a different display dimension. The 6.9" size (1290×2796) was added with the iPhone 15 Pro Max generation and is now the canonical reference. Google has not changed Play Store screenshot requirements meaningfully in several years; the dimension ranges have been stable since 2018.
